This is one serious bone of contention. As a design moves from very early stages and proceeds to the final stages (i.e. the stage before construction) the AEC industry largely is wanting the architect to stabilize on the design and produce the final construction documents.
However, in a developing country, there are many times when the design changes even after producing the construction documents. This vexes the engineers who are waiting at the construction site a lot – and the famous friction between those engineers and architects; possibly starts here.
In fact, the BIM people assumes that there is stability at the end of the design process – and most of the tools assume that details can be placed into the BIM documents and make them rich in all kinds of information. They implicitly assume that there is no going back.
But this is a serious point which is worth discussing. If the design does not get finalized; then what would be the repercussions for AIM (Architecture Information Modelling) ?
